theeconomist: Darling, there’s a tiny little succession-reform bill on the way. Britain’s prime minister wants to change royal succession laws so that a first-born daughter to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would accede to the throne ahead of any younger brothers. Now he must seek support from the 15 other realms of which Elizabeth II is queen. Come on. I understand things must move with the times but THEY BECOME MONARCHS FOR NO GOOD REASON! That is inconsistent. Paradoxical. I guess this should bring some democracy into the process of being a king by birth?
